A family-owned American manufacturer of HALT/HASS chambers, six-degree-of-freedom vibration systems and custom environmental chambers, in Allegan, Michigan since 1993.
Who we are
Hanse Environmental designs and builds environmental test chambers and vibration systems in Allegan, Michigan. Our HALT/HASS chambers, thermal chambers and patented 6-DoF vibration equipment help manufacturers in automotive, aerospace, electronics and defense find design weaknesses early, before they become recalls or warranty claims.
Our customers range from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies. We support every system we have built, with upgrades and retrofits when original parts run out.
Our story
John K. Hanse (1950–2021) was a pioneer of the environmental stress screening industry. He built this company step by step:
- 1989
Founds Allegan Environmental, building custom chambers and environmental stress screening equipment. First customers: Whirlpool and Ford Motor Company.
- 1992
Co-founds Qualmark, manufacturing HALT/HASS systems.
- 1993
Establishes Hanse Environmental, focused on HALT/HASS systems and custom-built chambers.
- 1999
Merges with M.V.E. to operate as MVE/Hanse.
- 2000
Chart Industries acquires MVE. Released from his non-compete, John restarts Hanse Environmental as a fully independent company, which it remains today.
- 2009
Ownership passes to his sons, Peter K. Hanse (CEO) and John H. Hanse, continuing Hanse as a family-owned American manufacturer.

What we build
HALT/HASS chambers
Twelve standard VTC models, with tables from 12 × 12 in (305 × 305 mm) to 48 × 102 in (1,219 × 2,591 mm): down to −100 °C and up to +200 °C, with 6-DoF repetitive shock vibration from 10 to 10,000 Hz in the same chamber.
HALT/HASS chambers →6-DoF vibration systems
Standalone VS systems and VK kits, in the same table sizes as the VTC range, up to 100 GRMS.
Vibration systems →Custom chambers
Walk-in and drive-in chambers, ultra-cold chambers, air-to-air thermal shock systems and combined temperature, humidity and vibration systems, built to your specification. Custom builds we have delivered include a vibration table with 1,000 G spike capability and chambers that run to +500 °C.

At Hanse since 2004, Peter brings a background in electronics, machine design, robotics, PLC programming, PID and control logic, purchasing and sales. He speaks German.
